Isa Level 1

The ISA Level One Surf Instructor Course is designed for individuals with surfing experience who want to teach novice surfers. This course focuses on introducing beginners to surfing, covering essential skills like equipment use, beach safety, paddling, catching waves, and riding white water. Additionally, it includes instruction on developing surfers as they progress towards riding green waves. 

 

The course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to teach surfing in a safe and supportive environment, helping both novices and intermediate surfers.

Duration + 
practice

The Level One Surf Instructor Course is conducted over two or three days and includes both practical and theoretical modules, along with assessments.

 

After completing the course, candidates must complete 20 hours of lesson planning and instructing experience under the guidance of an ISA Level One coach or equivalent mentor.

 

These hours will be logged and submitted for review.

To receive the ISA Level One Surf Instructor Award, candidates have 18 months to fulfill all course requirements.

 

This includes demonstrating personal surfing proficiency and holding a Surf Rescue (or obtaining one within 18 months of completing the course). The course fee includes ISA membership for the first year.

 

To maintain certification, a yearly fee of $100 USD is required, along with a valid water rescue certification.
